Ways We're Making a Difference

S.T.E.A.M

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

Global skill shortages in STEAM-related fields are redefining educational priorities. Schools are starting STEAM-based learning programs to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the 21st century. STEAM learning will not only produce tomorrow's designers and engineers; it will develop innovative mindsets and the ability to problem-solve, ensuring that our students become creators of technology, not just passive consumers. Our program offers these attributes and more.

The Colours Program engages young Black women (9th - 12th grade) by empowering them with skills such as verbal soft-skills demonstrations, effective listening, and goal-setting practices to become strong, productive global citizens. By connecting youth with mentors who offer affirmative support, suggestions, positive reinforcement, and constructive examples of successful women. Giving the young ladies the opportunity to think it, see it, do it, and be it.

Drumline

The Dr. James Polk Academy offers a drumline program for 6th – 12 graders in Austin, Texas who, otherwise, would not be able to have access to the financial requirements to engage in such an activity.  Drumline participants learn the skill of playing a percussion instrument as part of a community of musicians, sharing the joy of making music together. We only have 25 slots for this program so be sure to stay informed of the scheduling for enrollment and waitlist requirements.

Culinary Program

Our student chefs love food and want to build their skills… and they want to explore one of our world-class host cities in the evenings with our curated tours and skilled staff.

We accept all skill levels. What is required is a love of food and a desire to learn. We take you from exactly where you are to just where you want to go! We focus on skill building like plating, sauces, glazes and knife use, and we make over 100 amazing recipes from scratch.
